Re: Waistcoat
Elf: I still have 3 yards left. I may make another one. I'm not sure if you can see it in the picture but I left an iron print in the front right side trying to flatten the darts. That was stupid but it's done.
piperdbh: I wanted to make it without the welts altogether but my mom said it wouldn't look right. I don't think it looks right having them that close to the bottom after shortening the pattern. I also suggested moving the up and she said that wouldn't look right either. I can do it on my own now so I can experiment to find what I like. She won't know about it until I'm done.

Re: Waistcoat
If you're new to sewing, then I don't care what colors you like- you can color me impressed! I've been jonesing for a new waistcoat. You didn't help any!

Re: Waistcoat
That's a smashing blue waistcoat! I love the blue satin lining and the reinforcing(?) of the shoulders. Can you tell I am not a seamster? Love the buttons, too.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Pressing cloth and tailor's ham are your friends here. . . one good online source
Congratulations, looks fab coming from anybody and doubly so from a "beginner"!

Sydnie made one of my waistcoats. She does fantastic work! I would take any advice she offers.

Re: Waistcoat
I used a ham but not a pressing cloth. It was stupid really, I was already done and decided to put some weight on the iron on top of the dart. I guess I got what I deserved.

Ham? As in what I ate for dinner last night? (Not asking to be obnoxious- I can sew leather like a fiend, but I know nothing about sewing cloth.)
