    Just the pride

this may sound a bit silly .... but here goes ...

i've read a number of antecdotes from all of you posting here. i guess i'm just a silly romantic or something .... but a couple of things affect me in weird ways..... ( no, i don't need counseling .... do I ? )

    i get misty-eyed when ....

... when i hear a set of pipes playing

... when a child or youngster asks about the kilt you're wearing.

    Kids asking about kilts

Several months ago my then almost four year old son was watching the Wiggles and saw a young Irish Step Dancing boy wearing a kilt (solid color I might add). He turned to me and said "Daddy, can I get a kilt". I almost cried. (Are you listening Bear) (hint, hint)

Me too... Strangely enough the pipes is one musical instrument I have yet to play. I hope to rectify that one of these days.

Blu, it's not an easy road, learning the pipes, at my age I struggle anyway.

When you're young the fingers are more nimble. I've not held a set of pipes yet, I'm still on the chanter which is the most horrible instrument you can imagine.

It is well named the "misery stick".

My ulimate goal is to learn the Scottish small pipes, they have a beautiful sound and can be played indoors. They are not dissimilar to the Uilleann pipes, which are surely the most romantic sound in the world.

Now they bring a tear to my eyes very easily.

Thanx Phil... But primarily it's the cost of the pipes. I'd do it but for the fact that I have a daughter getting married in a year and we have to $ave for that. It's still on my "to do" list.

There is a new school here in Charleston called the Drake School of Irish Dance. Because of my non-profit group, Lowcountry Celtic (www.lowcountryceltic.com), I went to visit the school last week. It was so cool to see these little 4 and 5 year olds dancing jigs!

Seeing kids involved in positive activities really tugs at my heart strings. Especially Celtic activities.

Check out this pic I took at the Charleston Scottish Games about 3 years ago...

PS- I almost cried during the Hunley funeral last week b/c of Amazing Grace on the pipes!

I'm not bothered by it, nor do I think is anyone else, just thought you may like to know , this being an international board etc.

I was wondering when someone would notice that. However in the UK it may be regarded as a victory sign.

Hmmm. Well I didnt realize that hand gesture was as offensive as that...I thought it was more of a silly thing than a FU thing. I will chage it b/c I have too many International Friends here and I have an image to maintain!
