Re: CMcG's Adventures in Hong Kong

Thanks all, for checking out my pics

Here's a few more from my first excursion into custom tailoring. I got two shirts made for less than $50 CAD total. The quality is amazing and I can't believe the difference in having a shirt that fits in every way.

One of the shirts is white with a subtle check, has a wider spread collar, French cuffs, and my initials monogrammed on the cuff. The other is a blue and red tattersal, with a regular spread collar, and barrel cuffs. Both have extra long shirt tails and built-in collar stays.

I also picked up a tie in CUHK's collars: purple and gold. There isn't a single, official tie, but rather many different patterns that all have the school crest on the bottom. I chose this one because the colours distinguish it as a CUHK tie even if one can't see the crest. This is the tie that I wore to the Vice-Chancelor's dinner.

My next sets of custom tailored goods (4 shirts and one suit) are already pre-purchased through Groupon, which helped me get an even better deal. I'll also be following MacMillan of Rathdown's advice and looking into getting some bespoke shoes. The prices are no-where near what I would pay for dress shoes off-the-rack in Canada, so I'm quite excited. Unfortunately, there is only one kiltmaker here and his prices are as high or higher than anywhere else

You look well put together, and it sounds like you had a good time.

Nice looking shirts. There is nothing like the fit and feel of a custom shirt. Look forward to seeing the shoes after they're finished.

Wish you best of luck with your new wardrobe, CMCG.

    More adventures in Hong Kong

Here is a Chinese tour bus that I saw recently with an image of pipers on it:

    Colin:
There are several spots in HK where I have come across pipers completely by happenstance. Taking the Star Ferry across from the Kowloon side to HK island I have seen several in the environs of the ferry landing. I will see if I can dig up some of the pics this evening. Because my wife is Chinese she really liked seeing Chinese pipers in full regalia.

I suppose you haven't been able to find those pics? Sounds interesting!

    Hogmanay

I've been a little slow to upload photos but here are some from New Year's Eve at the Canny Man in Wanchai (Hong Kong). If any Xmarkers are ever in this neck of the woods, it's worth a trip, if only for the extensive whisky list!
