Re: advice for a funeral...
This question (or very similar) comes up every few months. And I will say the same thing, as I have said in the past:
You can't wear what you haven't got.
At a wedding where there could be 6, 9, maybe 12 months to plan or save money for a new outfit. Whereas a funeral is a week, 10 days, three weeks tops. There might be no time or money to buy something new and special.
I have seen men, who had been picking strawberries, walk off the fields with mud on their boots and their knees and their hands and follow the hearse. Each and every one of them was no less respectful when they stood in church to mourn a dead collogue as was the Mayor stood beside them in his robes and chain of office.
It is the attitude you wear that makes the difference, not the clothes.
Regards
Chas

Agreed, but some folks are not as enlightened. Normally, I say "screw 'em" but a funeral is slightly touchier.

My advice is to PM Vmac3205 and sydnie7 and ask their advice. They can tell you better advice than we fellers can.

Re: advice for a funeral...
Sorry for the loss. I've worn my kilt to funerals but only if there was some connection to Scotland and I was confident that the family would appreciate the symbolism of my regard. If they are not Scots or have any connection with Scotland I would suggest you fore-go. But you would know them best.

Re: advice for a funeral...
My fathers funeral planned out in advance, God knows when that time will be, but, Argyle or grey Crail is the jacket not P.C , Ask family concerned if that ok to show respect. PC too celebratory for funeral, sad times, but is time to honour and celebrate those that leave us.

Oops, didn't realize the OP was female.
Which in this case means treat it like a skirt for all intents and purposes.

Re: advice for a funeral...
Just found out its today at 1:00 and I don't have the money to get anything to wear with or without my kilt, and my dog died this morning so we have to spend the day figuring out what our neighborhood "rules" are to deal with this. Many thanks for everyone's advice on this topic.

Re: advice for a funeral...
My deepest sympathies to you. I'm sure losing a beloved pet has also impacted your life greatly.
Unfortunately I have had similar happenings in my life recently. Wear whatever you feel is best. And remember, it's important to be there and to support friends and family. What you wear is not nearly as important as you being there.
My blessings to you and your family and friends.
