That's a great purse and a great look--function and style. It looks exactly like a sporran on the fact of it, but one can readily see that it is designed to be a purse by the straps on the back.
And you make it look especially lovely. I'm sure your mom will enjoy it and enhance its beauty as well. Good choice.

What about a horsehair one, with a modified strap again, to be used as an evening bag for kilted events? A couple of eyebolts on the cantle and the strap can either go over the shoulder or across the body as above.
Opinions?

Great looking sporran/purse. I'd bet my wife would like one similar to this too. Looks like it would be a secure purse for times in the big city, or crowds.
