Re: "Winter Casual"
Well Mr. Seago, I don't know if they would be known as "ankle-brogues" but I do wear a pair of Redwing steel-toed work boots that are the same height and color as yours, with my casual kiltwear. And no I do not have any pictures to post.

That's okay Larry, I'll believe YOU even without pics. :-)

I'm hoping to be in the market for a pair of these (for casual wear) in the near future, Dale

Re: "Winter Casual"
That's a very sharp look. The use of earth colors is really coordinated quite nicely.

Re: "Winter Casual"
Dale, wonderful outfit, it all works very well together, I've long admired that tartan and you showcase it to great effect here, as to the boots I was given these recently:

However with the buckle placement I'm not sure they lend themselves to kilt wear.
I went out on Boxing Day and got these as I have been looking for black brogues:

I have not as yet had the chance to wear them but may try to get photos of each with the kilt soon.

Re: "Winter Casual"
A while back, I got a great deal at JC Penney on some Brown "Kosiorek" boots from Call it Spring (Never heard of them before...). They seem to be well made, and only set me back less than a dinner for two at Dave's Famous BBQ.

I will wear them with kilts and with cuffed trousers (I don't like cowboy boots with cuffed trousers).
Happy New Year to all!

Re: "Winter Casual"
Some nice shoes & boots there, gentlemen!
Mine were inspired by Xmarkers, most specifically this thread:
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...broques-69068/
What I'm wearing here are these, from Florsheim:
http://www.florsheim.com/shop/style/12085.html
Yesterday at a friend's place in Sacramento I wore a (mostly) different combination o' stuff which, while perhaps not as intuitively obvious, also works very well with this tartan, dropping the blues and adding dark green & black: Same sweater & brogues and same color (bison) hose; but dropping the blues in favor of dark green and some black: buttondown collar Loden washable wool field shirt from L.L. Bean (http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/69098?feat=sr) and Loden garter ties; black kilt belt w/brass buckle; F-B "Glengyle" sporran with black cantle & tassels & sporran strap, faced w/natural brown beaver fur.
Essentially the same overall effect with some different colors in the palette.
I know from experience that a khaki-to-brown colored shirt, with loden hose and bison garter ties, works very well visually for "casual mode" with this particular tartan as well; so do the dark blue wool Bean field shirt with Ancient Blue hose & Bison garter ties, or bison hose & ancient blue garters as worn here.
I'd just like to add that my sartorial experimentation over the last couple of years is all the fault of Xmarks. . .

These are a bit more casual and masculine and yet, retain a bit of dress.

Re: "Winter Casual"
Dale, I think your 'winter casual' looks great! I've always avoided wearing blue denim shirts with a kilt, thinking it would look "off", but your pics may have changed my mind. I don't know whether it's because it goes so well with the rest of what you're wearing, or whether it's just the confident way you wear it, but I think you really make it work.
I have an old pair of similar boots to the ones you're wearing (they used to have the so-called 'kilt' at the laces, but those wore off years ago). I've tried to wear them with my kilt, but they always looked too Western to me. But again, you seem to be able to pull it off. Now you've got me re-thinking that too!

Interesting boots! They remind me of the US M1943 two-buckle boots, but in more of a civilian style. They might indeed look a bit 'over the top' with a kilt; maybe you should post some pics with them so we can see how it turns out! I've come to realize that what I see in my mind's eye can be completely different when I see some of you folks wearing them well.
