    Re: Kilted Dating Forum?

I met my husband on a dating website that had nothing to do with kilts. "tis possible to meet someone on one.

I don't think X Marks is the place for that though. As Glen said, Personal Messages, E-mail, Skype, etc are the tools that really seal the deal. You can meet someone anywhere. We don't need an entire sub-forum full I'm "I'm Looking" "Me too" "Me three"

If you feel so inclined, you could always put that information in your profile under the "About me" tab

It might not be the place but it was a sweet suggestion nonetheless.

But good to see you back Sister!

Hmm. 'Met She Who Must Be Obeyed (the USA version) at a widows' group. 23 years sucessfully married and she hates the concept of her husband and kilts. Nope, a kilt forum would not have been a good place for us to e-meet.

    Re: Kilted Dating Forum?

My wife probably would not have found me on a kilt forum, but I have worn her thin, she bought me a new sporran for Christmas. That being said, I think the kilt is a poor reason to either date or not date someone, so I can not see a forum area that would likely bring the wrong element here. Now since we have the social groups on the site, and they are relatively hidden unless you are a member already, perhaps those with questions in this area could form one of those social groups and use it for whatever they need to within forum guidelines of course.

    Re: Kilted Dating Forum?

There is at least one other website which I know of which already fulfils this role.
It is a Scottish based social networking site which overlaps to some extent with Xmarksthescot in its forum topics and is open to people living in Scotland, people of Scottish descent and anyone who loves Scotland. Quite a few Xmarkers are also members of this other forum. It was recommended to me by a USA based member of my clan society when I began living on my own two and a half years ago. Since joining at that time I have made many new friends, both male and female and have received several approaches from lady members living both inside and outside of Scotland who expressed an interest in dating a kilt wearing Scotsman.
I feel that there is no need for Xmarksthescot to offer a dating service and I would question whether it would be successful, given the relatively small proportion of our members who are female.

[QUOTE=pipesndrumsnun;1044487]Actually, the nun is NOT interested in a dating site (we don't date or marry)! . . .QUOTE]

Whew! You had me worried for a while there, Sister, and I was afraid that Mother Superior was going to show up any minute to take names.

It is so good to see you back. I was wondering about you recently when I was talking to a local nun who knew just how to get me to buy some knitted stuff she'd made. Ha.

    Re: Kilted Dating Forum?

Personally I think this is really bad idea. The original poster seems to think that the only people visiting the site would be straight women looking for straight men who wear kilts and in this he is sadly mistaken! First of all it would be wrong to limit it to straight men, in my opinion, given the many gay men who like kilts. And then unfortunately the site would attract all matter of weirdos and fetishists, I've seen it happen. There seems to be so many dating/meeting sites as it is that something like this is really unnecessary!

    Re: Kilted Dating Forum?

I think Steve said it best. This is a site dedicated to kilts and kilt wearing and deviation from Hanks' original vision begins to open up so many rabbit trails the site could take that it would soon be just another gathering place of internet weirdos, instead of the rabble we currently have.

Rabble, in this context, meaning us. We gather here because of a common interest. Besides, bunch of people, mostly men, on the make would lead to all sorts of posturing and junk we don't currently have and can happily continue to live without.

But hey, you can't fault the good Sister for having an idea. I'd sooner see ideas floated and shot down than no ideas at all.
