Does anyone recognize this? I'd like to get a copy.

Re: Anyone recognize this print?
An interesting one.
Its not a very clear picture. One interpretation could be that the kilted piper appears to be leading a civilian group and their family who are on the left hand hillock.
My own thoughts were initially that this could be an artists interpretation of the Highland Clearances as the piper leads his family away to new pastures.
Yet the family on the right hand hillock appear to be disinterested in the piper. Is the standing figure a minstrel playing to them on a fiddle or similar instrument?
Perhaps the group of people on the nearest hillock could simply be watching the piper marching past with the other gent and his dog.
Perhaps one of our experts will be able to identify it.

Re: Anyone recognize this print?
I think not Alex, its a "stalkers, home from the hill" type picture. I can't help you with the picture, I am afraid. But in the unclear picture I can see a man in the front, with the piper, with two deer hounds, followed by two highland ponies each carrying a stag, followed by a chap (I am guessing now) perhaps carrying a firearm of some sort and more deer hounds(?), passing a couple of people by the wayside. If you can identify the picture, I too would be interested to know who was responsible and more about it.

It looks like it may a print by Landseer. Scenes like these were a frequent subject in his art. I'd start searching through a collection of his works.

It is Landseer. I believe the title is "The Chief's return from deer stalking.". Come to think of it, a good friend has a copy of it in his drawing room.
