Newspapers do tend to fact check...
Would we rather have the bbc...

Not actually the lyrics, but certainly a reference to the same story and verse 6 issue...

Re: Ditch Flower of Scotland?
Highland Cathedral would be an awesome anthem especially if some good lyrics were added

I fail to understand this East Anglian phobia for this particular newspaper but the argument is still far from lost. If you read the Monarchy Today website properly you would have seen Additional verses have been added down the years, but these are rarely used.
Thus they do exist and that existence is acknowledged, and though they may not be used (as most additional verses of any national anthem are not), the Telegraph is not incorrect.
And I am sure that the Marshall Wade verse was indeed sung in 1745!

Re: Ditch Flower of Scotland?
I was taught as a Glaswegian child in the 70s the words to Flower Of Scotland (And also "Wee Anne took her yo-yo" and "Ye cannae fling Pieces oot o 20 storey flats") but accepted that the national anthem was unofficially Scotland The Brave, where everyone knows the words are dum-dum-de-dum-dum.
I'd gladly accept FoS, StB (if it came with a word study guide), A man's a man, Scots Wha Hae or even the aforementioned Pieces.

Re: Ditch Flower of Scotland?
I fear that the Pieces song could only be a Glaswegian, or even only Castlemilk, national anthem!

Im in agreement with you, and just to let you know it has lyrics already in both english and scots gaelic.
heres the lyrics
Land of our fathers, we will always be
Faithful and loyal to our own country
In times of danger, we will set you free
Lead you to glory and to victory
Hail, Caledonia, to our ancient prayer
In this Highland Cathedral, let our standards, bear
Joining, together, with one dream to share
God bless the people of this land so fair
Chorus:
Gone is the past, let us start a new
Let this hope of peace, always remain
Spirit of Scotia, be strong and true
Then your children will smile again.
Rise, Caledonia, let your voices ring
In this Highland Cathedral of our God and King
Whom, joy and liberty, to all, will bring
Come; let your heart, with love and courage, sing
Chorus:
Lonely the exile, o'er distant seas,
The home of their birth, gone from their eyes.
Bring back their souls o'er the ocean breeze
To the land where their fathers lie.

Y'all have at it. I still hum an old minstrel tune whose chorus goes like this......
"I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Look away, look away, look away
Dixieland"

I still stand, face the South, and put my hand over my heart when that song is played . . . or sung . . . or hummed . . . or . . .
