Duh. Yeah, "a pleat". That word skipped my brain, but is perfectly clear to everyone reading it on this forum.

You'd have 3 layers at most, instead of two, but no gap or draft.

Another idea would be a pleat on either side, with the snaps on either side of your achilles tendon. You'd be pressing on the side of your tendon to snap, but while wearing, they'd be "floating" in that hollow and not rubbing your skin. They'd look a bit like a pair of spats or gaiters?

Also, the snaps would be through a single layer of cloth so that unsnapped the cadadh could open far enough at the ankle to let the heel back out.
