Can you wear a Fly plaid with Day wear ?

If we ignore members of pipe bands, the fly plaid is just ornament and is sometimes worn with formal, very rarely with tweed, day attire for a wedding by the groom, for example, but generally a fly plaid is not worn with day attire. Can one do so? Yes. Should you? Hummm.

A "day plaid" or "laird's plaid" would be much more appropriate for day wear.

Here are some of my thoughts regarding day plaids. If you are going to wear one and not look silly...

They must only be worn when outside

They must only be worn if you are going to have need of a blanket (i.e. it is either cold or you need a place to sit/have a picnic)

They must be simply folded and tossed over one's shoulder

The thought behind them should be less "fashion accessory" and more "I'm just carrying this blanket that I need in a convenient way"

I do not have a matching tartan day plaid, but I do have a wool fashion tartan blanket that I use as one on occasion. It is great for camping on cold mornings

The other day I went to watch our local high school marching band perform. Though not kilted (but wearing a good tweed blazer and my beloved tweed bucket hat- J.S!), as I headed out the door I noticed how a cold wind was picking up and the dark clouds were forming overhead. I grabbed my unbrella and tossed the folded blanket over my shoulder. It kept me warm on the stands and protected me from the rain that fell as the show concluded and I walked home. A few people sitting next to me looked jealous as they shivered on the stands! Though dated and nowadays replaced by waterproof outerwear, they are certainly still useful in the right circumstances.

The key is to think of the day plaid as a functional item. You don't wear it because it looks nice, you carry it on your shoulder because you are going to need it and this is the easiest way to lug it around.

A Half Belted Plaid with Day wear Jacket ?

I have seen many post on this and I have seen pictures of it and it looks
great and I have fallen in Love with it .

Is the semi-formal (suit equivalent) appropriate for corporate work? Like when I wear the suit to the office? Or, would that be some sort of daywear or dressy combination? I know I can wear whatever I want, just wondering what may be appropriate but no too dressy. Thx,

I would say that level of formality would be a bit much, I did wear the kilt to work daily for 4 years and I would typically wear the dressy option as I think what we called dressy is a bit much for the office.

I've always said kilts are like jeans, you can dress them up, or dress them down.
