    Re: Eisenhower & George VI

I, too, had never noticed this type of waistcoat before. (Gives me some new ideas about that clergy vest I need to have made...!)

Question: Does the waistcoat follow the line of the lower cut around the sides and back, or are these truly "flaps" in the front that frame the sporran? Since jackets are being worn in the pictures, I cannot tell.

The first one, yes, the others I'm not sure but I'm going to look into it!

p.s. ~ this one has already appeared in the vintage kilt photo thread as well:

...the others I'm getting set to add shortly.

I'm very curious about this too. I wish there were some pictures of the waistcoat sans jacket so we could see the sides and back! Surely, though, the waistcoat tapers back up on the sides so that it's at normal length in the back. I couldn't imagine it maintaining that lower profile around the back.

This is a style I think we need to bring back! I'm betting any standard waistcoat could be modified to that profile.

I certainly can "imagine it maintaining that lower profile around the back", Tobus. Remember that waistcoats worn with the kilt are shorter. Adding perhaps an inch to the length in the rear wouldn't really matter.
