Then I suppose you shouldn't have made this post, quoted in its entirety, in which you said NOTHING about Highland Attire AT ALL:

I also take exception to your claim that it depends how much money you have and whether or not you have anything to prove, that is not the point at all. I am far from rich, the outfits pictured took years to save for. It's about wearing the appropriate outfit and how to do so with one kilt.

How long it took you to save up for your kit has nothing to do with my statement on financial wherewithal. These gents have all shown up for a black tie affair (albeit in the country) in jeans, barefoot, sandals, and Wellies. Would they wear this to the opera or to a do in the big city? Doubtful. But does that mean they are doing it wrong here? Not by any stretch of the imagination. There is a time and a place for everything.

my comment was ment that a kilt could be worn for all occasions. I never dreamed I would be lambasted so severly for that. I thought better of the people on this form.

Actually, Slackerdrummer, though you said, "These gents have all shown up for a black tie affair (albeit in the country) in jeans, barefoot, sandals, and Wellies. . . ," they are in fact likely well-paid models who showed up for a photo shoot for a magazine. Real people rarely dress like models in faddish magazines and on glitzy TV shows, and I doubt one should even think of attending an event dressed like that if the invitation clearly says, "Black Tie."

And . . . saving and financial wherewithal truly are not the same things; the first is how one overcomes the second. I know some very well-turned-out wearers of highland attire who are not well-off at all. They do, however, practice many of the points proposed by Dave Ramsey, so the answer from McMurdo was an appropriate bit of advice for those without the wherewithal to rush out and purchase items of clothing.

And I really don't think there's any "lambasting" going on, but there you are. I did, though, think that anyone here would understand that a kilt is highland attire without having to state the same.

Oh, well. Drinks are on me. I think I'll don my highland attire kilt and choose a look for the evening.

Actually, if you'd clicked the "Source" link provided, you'd know that this was in fact (as opposed to "in fact likely") an "'outdoor supper' hosted by Country Living contributing editor Randy Florke and partner Sean Maloney at their Sullivan County, N.Y., farm." Just because it was professionally photographed for the magazine doesn't mean it wasn't real. Apparently the invitation stated "Black tie with a twist".

Now let's get back to kilts. Please. I'm sorry for the diversion.

Black tie is black tie.

All these pseudo things like "black tie with a twist" or "black tie casual" or "black tie whatever" are not black tie at all.

To keep this on topic, I've not got much money but I've carefully put together my traditional wardrobe to be able to be adequately attired at any level from casual to white tie.

It can be done.

This all reminds me of a wedding I went to out in the country a few years ago. It wasn't black-tie, but folks 'dressed up' for it, like the old fellow that wore a bow tie and suit jacket over his bib-overalls.

Depends on where you are at I guess.
