Great option, one I would definitely go for! Of course, another option would be to simply restrict the use of this particular jacket to just that; only worn as a jacket with a collared shirt, necktie, kilt, belt or no belt, etc. Sometimes I opt to leave the waistcoat at home and wear only the jacket - same basic idea with yours.
