cg,
Now that is an innovative solution. I think I will try that with a section of mechanical pencil eraser, as I aquired a good supply of them.
Thanks

Pin problem
I have to say that, in all my 54 years of kilt wearing I have never once lost a kilt pin or had one come undone. I have just tested all the 'latches' on my pins and they are all quite difficult to turn so I guess they are unlikely to come undone of their own accord.
Having said that, I'll probably lose one tomorrow!!!!

You must have jinxed me Alaskan! I just lost a kilt pin for the first time! I too have had them come loose so I gently squeezed the clasp and put a drop of glue on to hold it shut. I read all the other entries with the smug satisfaction that I had already done those things so "I won't be losing my pin". Then last night one of my pins slipped into an alternate reality. It was there when I put the kilt on but an hour later it had vanished. No problem, I haven't left the house so it has to be here somewhere. WRONG! I even accused my wife of stealing it in some vicious atempt to get me to do the vacuming while I looked for it. She said she doesn't trust me with the vacum though so that can't be it. Oh well, at least it wasn't one of my favorites, but I will be paranoid about it for a while.

I'm sorry, Jamie.
I thought this thread might help some of us (especially me) avoid losing kilt pins. I didn't realize it would jinx anyone.
That being said... better you than me.

Bubba,
Tried your suggestion last night. It seems to be working ok.
Thanks

I lost my Clan Hay kilt pin in a gas station in Virginia because the latch opened. I think I'll try the hot glue trick. Sounds like that'l work. I tried the squeeze with pliers and it didn't work too well for me!
I've survived DAMN near everything

Sorry for your loss Donnie, I know how it feels. I spent three hours searching our town last week for a lost pin, without success.
Bloomin pins, you would think someone would invent a better catch!!

Kilt Pin Fix
I use a variety of kilt pins, some antique, some bought, some I made, and I have had several that would fall off at every chance. I've found that pierced ear-ring retainers, little clear rubbery-plastic knobs that you can get at most ear-ring stores, about twenty to fifty cents each. I put the pin through the kilt once, slide the keeper on and up nearly to the top of the pin, put the pin back through the cloth to the front of the kilt and latch it, then slide the keeper up to the top of the pin. It may still come unlatched, but it will NOT come off the kilt, as the kilt pins are thicker than ear-ring pins, and thus fit much more tightly.
Try it.
