Never Thought I'd Be Posting On The DIY Forum
When my 5 yard wool USA Kilt arrived Rocky was kind enough to toss in the remanent material. Its 16 ounce Lochcarron Strome in the Cameron Modern tartan. Good stuff.
I've been looking at the remanent and finally decided that "MAYBE" I can turn it into a tartan scarf.....maybe. Read up on the threads about ripping wool fabric. Looked at a couple wool scarfs that my hand sewn kiltmaker had made with remanents of other tartans. Figured it was worth the shot.
This is the remanent before I attacked it.
This is the finished tartan scarf after ripping it and putting some fringe on. Still have some fringe work to even out but the scary part - the ripping - is over and I'm kinda proud of myself. Me.....a DIY guy.....amazing.
Thanks for tossing in that "bait" Rocky.

Nice job on that scarf! Next you'll be doing some flashes, then your own kilt!

Well, that's pretty cool!
As far as the fringe goes, is it the same as the fringe on the apron edge of a kilt, with a strip of fabric sewn on and left to unravel, or is it stitched along the edge?

So far its just loose fringe, just pulled each thread out myself to create the fringes.

If you save the threads you pull out in the fringing, and braid them into your hair, it would look pretty snazzy.
