Re: Modern kilt + creepers. Yay or Nay?
My uncle grew up with one leg about 2" shorter than the other.
Until he had surgery to correct it, these were the kind of shoes he wore.

Ahhh creepers!! That takes me back to high school and jr. high days, just throw in some Drakkar Noir and you have every boy I ever danced with in Jr. High... so I have a fondness for them.
I actually looked for patent pointed toe Doc Martens to wear, but couldn't find any. Then I started to have flashbacks of the black and white striped tights.
Well, I guess if I wore grunge once, and can't really get away with it again.
Remember "Monkey Boots"? Those would also work well with modern kilts. Actually I like "punk" footwear with trad kilts too.

I would like them if they were more of a boot.

They also remind me of a few very cool punks I knew back in high school who wore them. So much so, I bought a pair of them for my 17 year old son last year.
He's not worn them with a kilt yet, but I do think they would work well with a modern kilt. I am just not sure what kind of hose or sock would work.

If you pared away about a half an inch worth of the thickness of the sole, I think they would look pretty nice.

And a "Members Only" jacket to boot?

The only shoes I ever heard referred to as brothel creepers, were desert boots. That was in the 1960's - 70's. Those shoes look more to be clunkers.

I think they would work with a modern kilt as well as many contemporary shoes. I wouldn't wear them because I don't like clunky shoes or thick soles, but they do look soft and comfortable. If you like them, wear them.
