My four penn'orth- I would say that in my humble opinion the Scots (plus the rest of the Brits and the Irish) don't seem as intent on tracing their family history as the Americans and Canadians do, to my mind it's obvious why- because the latter two are "new" countries. I was born and bred in Central England but I LOVE tracing my family history, possibly largely because my Scottish grandad was an orphan plus both my parents have now passed on.
