Re: Do you feel safe?
Has this anything to do with this thread?
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...6/#post1054176
Ah. Well XMTS has been fun at times. Not so much anymore. I think that the question I asked was taking things in another direction but I guess I'm a stupid a$$. Thanks for nothing. Lock this thread mods. I'm done here.
If this thread is to do with the other thread, well, with all respect Cowher, you did bring it upon yourself.
Religion, Politics, Guns, Weapons that are not Scottish in origin, Definition of a kilt, Feathers, Fly plaid, White hose - All hot button topics, that are guaranteed to get all kinds of responses and finally get shut down.
But you know this - so who are you mad at? Us or yourself?
Regards
Chas

Re: Do you feel safe?
Yes, I feel safe.
This thread is a good example of why I feel that way.
Consider that the OP expressed his concerns and we have actively responded with many good thoughts about this issue - all of them positive and constructive. How many other forums are out there where a poster can lay bare his/her feelings as we can do so here?

Re: Do you feel safe?
I am a newbie - and I feel safe here. This forum has its heated opinions, heads and moments but is second only to one wargaming forum for its atmosphere and general camaraderie.

Re: Do you feel safe?
Boy! Everyone settle down. Ha haaa this is getting comical.
First let me say again. THERE IS NOT ONE INSTANCE THAT HAS ME MAD!! in fact I'm NOT mad at all. It's the general feeling of this forum. It's both sides of the coin! Yes I started a post because I was irritated at some other posts I read. Actually what I did was join a discussion to late in the game when everyone was getting fed up. I received RUDE replies. It pissed me off even more. Then I got to thinking. This forum has it's opposing views and always has but people forget to drop it when it should go no further and they are getting personal. It's all a little harsh and irritating.
My thought is to remind the rabble to behave in a manor that upholds peace. If your heated up, stop and walk away. When you are squabbling stop and walk away.

There have been many posts over the years on this forum that have spoken of "changes" and "turns for the worse".
As for me, I'd much rather admire and be with the ones who radiate the light

Jamie that's what I was (poorly) trying to say. I myself have been and will be guilty of perpetuating negativity. I want to remind myself and any others to stop and think of their replies and to only post positivity/light.
Oh and cessna152towser, No, I was not drunk. I had one small glass of scotch and only mentioned it at a attempt of humor(fail). But I do admit. And I make it a point to never get drunk when I drink.
*sigh
Everyone is looking for the wound. Why? Is it to say "it's not that bad" "I have had worse" or "yeah I can see how that hurts. Buck up chap!". No need. It's a call to peace and civility. Just a reminder that it's getting ugly here and we are the ones doing it. So stop and reclaim the XMTS trend of peaceableness. Let's keep our forum positive. That's all that's it. No need to grab your g#ns.
To Jock, I'm not talking about you no matter what someone says.
Cheers!

Re: Do you feel safe?
Someone could probably write a doctoral thesis on the ups and downs and ins and outs of this board since it started. Right now it seems most tame by comparison to some of the wild times in the past.
The change I see is that "in the old days" the rabble was made up of members who "found" X Marks or were refered to it.
Since the computer technology allowed the XMarks posts to leap to the top of most search engines when anything having to do with kilts is searched for there's been a steady flood of newcomers....some stay and join in.
In any group one member leaving or one member joining changes the dynamics of the group.
What I've seen is a lessening of intensity since we don't know each other as well with all the new folks.
What I've also seen is a few trolls hook up and do their work - as mentioned most other (non-kilt) forums can and do get brutal and newcomers used to that sometimes start off on the wrong foot.
But the last few years have been very tame compared to some of the past storms that blew across this forums....
So maybe...because I'm confused over the OP too...we're talking about some fine tuning...???
Put my vote with the "more specifics please because I'm confused" folks...

Because you started a thread which communicated that you had some frustration/disagreement with the forum but didn't do us the service of actually communicating what your gripe was.

Xmarks tends to be a peaceful place, except when folks turn from talking about kilts and turn to talking about what cheeses them off. If the purpose of this thread was to encourage others to "stay positive", I think your efforts have been counter-productive. If the purpose of this thread was to stir up trouble, you've accomplished your objective.

Re: Do you feel safe?
I think that this site has improved greatly in recent years.
A while back, some one dropped a nasty virus on me using this site, and continued doing so when I went elsewhere (since I couldn't gain access to Xmarks).
Things went fine for a while, but when I started encountering problems, I reported it, the mods in "the other place" went into immediate denial and refused to believe they had a problem. I got my local geek to look into it, who confirmed that somebody had hijacked the mods' access "over there" (essentially the hacker was posing as a mod), upgraded my security and fixed the problems that had disabled my access.
Xmarks has worked perfectly ever since, other than some incompatibility issue with posting photos (no idea why I can't).
Yes, I feel safe here, but now I am very aware that there are malicious people out in cyberspace who have far too much technical knowledge, and far too much time on their hands.
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.
