Isn't it amazing how any clothing with the word "kilt" attached to it is more expensive? I bought a pair of shooting sock, self-tie, garter ties recently for about $12 including shipping...
The diced hose from J. Higgins are decent for the price. I was gifted a pair and I think they will last quite some time, especially considering I might wear them once or twice per years.
Finally, as others have mentioned, keep your eyes open for eBay. My lass got me a pair of almost-new, Argyle hose for around $40 with shipping.
As a grad student, I understand being on a budget. I would love being able to afford custom knit hose but that is just a dream for me right now. Until then, I'll have to keep digging for bargains!
