Been awhile since my last visit, plan to stick around
I already introduced myself some time ago. Last June I picked up a kilt from a member here and enjoyed wearing it. In August, I had a serious bicycle wreck, solo and was hurt pretty bad. I won't go into the whole thing, read about it here. I've recovered quite well and have a very long ways to go still. I wore my kilts while in the hospital's rehab unit, and wore one home. Made an impression upon all the nurses. I've lost weight during the recovery and hope to continue losing. Almost 40 pounds so far, 30-40 more would be nice. But I'm left with no kilt that fits me anymore. Not sure if I should buy another now or wait and see if I keep the weight off and lose more. Either way, I won't be without a kilt for long.

So happy to hear that you are recovering nicely and hope/trust that you will continue to do so. I too lost some weight a while back, not as much as you but enough to make my best kilt not fit properly. I recently sent it out to a professional kilt maker to have it resized and am really looking forward to getting it back. I was/am also concerned about the possibility of losing more weight -- something I could stand to do -- but I doubt that I will lose so much more that the newly altered kilt would need resizing again. I made sure to give the seamstress the tightest waist measurement I can now comfortably wear hoping that belt adjustments will take care of any future changes in my waist. Best of all to you and for a continuing good recovery.

Good to have you back in the land of the living. I would buy a cheap kilt for now - probably acrylic. Wait six months. Has the weight stabilised. If not keep buying cheap till it does.
Once it is stable for a few months, then buy a good kilt.
Happy recovery.
Regards

I'm looking at the UTKilts right now. I like the price. Plain and simple. And the standard cargo pockets. (And seems to be local to me!!) But love the look and feel of the Utilikilts brand. Weight isn't stable. I intend to lose more. I've dropped from a 48" waist in jeans to 42" so far, but can wear 40s and have pulled on 38s. Won't be rushed with it, just like my recovery. Not rushing anything. I do need to add more to the blog friends of mine asked me to start. While in the physical rehab center, I wore my SportKilt Comfy Kilt most of the time. I got a 2X when I did, but the XL would have been just fine I believe. Nurses loved it, and I know of at least three husbands that received one each as gifts. So of course, I HAD to wear the other one when I left the hospital. Being all black, it might be alterable.
I thought recovery from my knee replacement was tough This with the back and neck hasn't been any fun. I'll never ever pass through airport or courthouse security easily. Its been an interesting journey that has certainly taught me some bigger lessons.

Roger, what a story! I'm glad you're recovering so well after all that. As a cyclist, yours is the kind of story I try and keep in the back of my mind. It's cool you were wearing a kilt in rehab! Here's to your helmet, that gave itself in the line of duty!

Thanks!!! An important lesson learned this past year has been that its OK to ask for help. Many of us are frequently too proud to announce our vulnerabilities and weakness' even to friends. But now I know, if I need help, I need help. And for a while, with me, it was just getting dressed. Hence the kilt in rehab. It was easy for me to get on by myself, and lightened the day for many around me.
