What to do with this tartan ribbon?

My now wife (yes gents, I finally tied the knot a week and three days ago today on January 7th, 2012) pruchased a huge amount of Black Watch ribbon for the flowers in our wedding, and now I am trying to think of a DIY project that will use the remaining ribbon most effectively. I was actually thinking about making dog collars, any takers? And any ideas would be appreciated.

    Congrats!

Collars would be good. You could also use some to decorate a handbag for your new better half. Try your hand at making some cockades and rosettes maybe, for bonnets or a nice addition to your girl's shoes? Use some to matte some framed photos. Or you could donate it to oh, I dunno... me?

You could do just about anything with it.

I think you need to weave the ribbons (think lawn chair webbing) and then make a kilt out of it.

    Talk about fashion forward!

(um, do wear something underneath when its done)

    Self Tie Garters.

I wear garters made from woven woollen tapes. With a knot tied in each end and then teased out to form a tassel, 1 yard per leg is only just enough. And I have skinny calf muscles.

If the ribbon is silk or polyester you could make a tassel by taking a couple or three (or more) short lengths and doubling them through the knot.

I would have thought that a normal sized calf would use a yard and a half (times 2 for both legs) and then at least an extra yard for the tassels (say 2 yards as there are 2 ends to each garter)

So a total of 5 yards used for one pair of garters.

How much ribbon do you have?

    Regards

    Chas

If you have some wide, flat frames for your wall art, you could dress them up by putting some ribbon on the frames (or use them as matte borders as Mickey suggested).

Tie some into bows to put around vases/candlesticks/lamps for decoration.

    Festoon your curtains with them.

"This? Why, I can make a hat, or a brooch, or a pterodactyl..."

Go nuts with Black Watch ribbons! Put it on everything!!! All through the house! BWAHAHAHA!!!!

Sorry.... couldn't contain myself. Really, the possibilities are endless.

If you really do have a lot, you might try cutting it into hanks of 10 yards or so and selling it, either here or on That Internet Auction Site.

Dog collars would be popular. Once you learn how to attach it to a collar, you can apply that skill to attach it to belts Canvas webbing makes easy "ribbon" belts, with your BW ribbon sewn on.

It makes a distinctive trim for all sorts of packages and presents. If you used it as a theme element for your wedding, you might use it to decorate some photo albums for friends and relatives.

Be sure to save a few yards for some special anniversary present- and a few more yards for a later, even special-er anniversary.

And do not be surprised when someone eventually mentions THE DRUNKEN SCOTSMAN. You are the one who said "ribbon".

Trade it to a local florist in exchange for flowers on your wife's birthday.
Applique' it to cushions, the ends of pillowcases, linen napkins, or Christmas stockings.
Use some of is for a hat band or your favorite fedora.
Tie each other up with it.

Ooops, didn't mean to write that last bit.

What a marvelous idea - now I know what to do with one of those thin strips of tartan left over from my kilt! Thanks for the idea!

Maybe I could make hatbands so I can match both my kilts...

I really like the idea of saving it and incorporating it into our anniversaries. And I definitely won first prize.
