Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)

Me at work. I think this qualifies by James's and Steves description. I am wearing this, exactly again today except that I have on my old, retired brown hiking books, and have a brown t-shirt on, under the shirt. Kilt is my M'Lady Chrystel, in the Capercaillie, modern tartan.

We could start a whole new category here...

"The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)"

This pretty much sums up the way I wear my Kilt... Most of the time.

Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)

I think this thread is really good Jamie, Thanks. A couple of observations I'd make is that Traditionalist is a very broad term. While I self-identify as a Traditionalist I have worn a traditional kilt with sweaters, casual shirts, polo shirts and t-shirts, fleece tops, loafers, hiking boots (even a leather bomber jacket) as well as with the full tweed argyle ensemble and brogues/oxfords. I think that is the beauty of the kilt is that it can be as formal or informal as the occasion merits.

As was said on the traditional traditionalist thread, Tradition is a living thing it evolves over time, and in a very technical sense is a dynamic which responds to changing circumstances.

This was a quite a while ago, and I don't know if I'd do it again, but here goes.

I love how this thread shows that people whom you would think are die hard trad's do have a casual side to them! lol. most of my kilt wearing goes from very casual, to semi formal. about the the dressiest i get is my black argyle jacket with a black bowtie if need be (a very rare accessory for me) otherwise i have picked up one of the Burnetts and Strouth navy blue kilt jackets that was from their kilt band usualy for family functions or scotch tastings.

Then there is the 1% that proves that it is possible for a standard sportcoat to work with the kilt on occasion. And this outfit is in that 1%.

I'm not sure what makes this look alright to me, but I honestly think it might be the striped scarf!

Below are photo examples of how far I'll go in regards to being a wee bit more relaxed and casual whilst in Highland attire...no farther than this, however. Hahaha!
