Re: Ideas For A Doublet for Myself????
I'll have the one one the left in burgundy velvet, and the one on the left in a deep dark green... So, well, if I really had to choose... yeah, one of each.
Very nice!
Cheers

Re: Ideas For A Doublet for Myself????
I would like to have one of each. I have found a jacket that I can modify to make the one on the right. all I would have to do is ad the velvet cuffs and collar.

I am hoping that a local seamstress can make the one on the left for me. I'm ok at making clothes but that is a little far out of my league.

I'll warn you that the material of the jacket in your picture is too light a material to make a formal doublet. I tried this several years ago with less than stellar results.

I don't know whether it would be at all cost-effective, but you might contact the Quartermaster Shop (or similar "sutler"); most -- if not all -- of their jackets are custom order, so you might be able to get them to make a one-off doublet at not much greater cost.
Here are some Civil War US officers' shelljackets, for example:

They already make a version of the NY 79th jacket, so adding "Braemar" style cuffs shouldn't be a big deal:

I like both of them, but I think I would prefer them both with tashes as seen on regulation doublets.

I just bought a ladies Eaton jacket and am in the process of adding cuffs. I thought that velvet would be hard to work with but it's not bad.
Good luck with your Doublet quest,

Harold, I too would go with the double breasted style. You are a big man, and I think the double breasted jacket would be more visually proportionate to your stature.
If you have a hand in making it, I'm sure which ever one you go with will be top notch! Keep us posted.
