Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)

These technically violate my original premise since I am wearing a Stillwater Heavyweight kilt that is mass produced. However this was me taking a page from Paul Henry's book and having fun with a tartan scarf and a solid color wool kilt.

Don't know if this is pushing the line too far....

Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)

OK, I'll take a stab at it myself. I have a few photos from over the years.

Last year at the St. Paddy's parade:

A year or two ago in front of the Celtic Tavern:

At the Gatlinburg Games a couple years ago:

About, oh, three or four years ago:

And then there's the steeplechaise laszt spring:

I suppose it's a little like before but with a new kilt and sporran.

    Finally, there's St. Paddy's of 2009

Just a few samples I thought I'd throw into the mix just to show I'm not a stick-in-the-mud all the time.

Jamie, you always have a flair. Hence your well chosen moniker. I have to say I really like the saturated blues and greens. It encourages my choice of a new (Miller Tartan) Matt Newsome made box pleat kilt. I've got about 5-6 more weeks to wait though before it's done- it's killing me!

Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)

Yesterday, I attended our board of education's "shinnenkai." That's a very Japanese-style New Year's party (held in the new year)... I've been coming to this even kilted for several years now, but in the past I always dressed more formal.

This year, I combined a modern turtleneck sweater with my jacket and Maple Leaf tartan kilt. I also chose the belt I normally wear with my modern kilt, and a day sporran instead of my rabbit fur evening sporran with a cantle.

This is one of my interpretations of "traditional kilt, modern look."

Looks great overall, and the turtleneck definitely works!
