Look back on these pages and photos in 40-50 years and there will be. That is why the thread is called "The New Traditionalists", as in time these styles of wear with the "traditional" tartan kilt WILL in many instances become the norm.

Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)
In the heat of Florida, a nice polo shirt paired with light hose and the normal accouterment is about as far as we can go, there is no practical use for a jacket, or even a sweater for 10 months out of the year.
So here's my take (and what I normally wear unless at a wedding or burns dinner)
With my son. Kilt is a USAK in Caledonia - the shirt and hose are especially important as the shirt is a high performance wicking polo, and the hose are thinner, with a higher nylon blend to keep me cooler...

And him in his, as well we are in matching Black Watch, and I am wearing a barely visible nylon nightstalker.
Have fun and throw far. In that order, too. - o1d_dude

Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)
I guess the definition of 'traditional' varies from person to person. Based on comments in this thread, it seems unless you are attired like Prince Charles at a Scottish photo op you are underdressed.
I feel like I dress in a mostly traditional manner a lot of the time. There are times I'll wear sneakers and a t-shirt with a tartan kilt, and that's certainly not trad, but since I wear my kilts pretty much full time it is usually a consideration for weather and/or comfort.
Unless I'm attending something that warrants a jacket and tie, I'm generally wearing a tartan kilt, long or short sleeve button-up shirt, sometimes a golf shirt, low quarter shoes, hose and flashes, kilt belt and sporran. I feel like this is a casual, but quite traditional look.

T-shirt and sneakers, not trad !

Golf shirt and hose, a little more trad...

Button-up shirts and kilt hose, traditional enough for me on most days...

But I can do the usual definition of traditional when I want to.
Yeah, I know, can't see me in most of the photos... That's my number one fashion rule; stand next to the right people and nobody cares what you look like! Plus, hey that's how Zardoz rolls....

You look very well put together. And with the best of all kilt accessories, traditional or modern on your arm!
Very kind Sir - she is one in a million.

Looks like a beautiful day - nice outfit - and a lovely lady by your side. Well done!
Thank you Sir. It was a scorcher (which we are unused to in the UK); I sorely felt for the staunch kilt wearers of modern climes that day!

I just looked back over all the photos and most show a traditional-looking kilt, traditional kilt hose, flashes, and a sporran... in short, rather traditional dress from the waist down, but worn with more casual shirts and outer wear.

Agreed, that looks to me to be the principal difference.

Jamie, I like the look. That brown leather jacket really compliments the total look but my wife said that you should drop the sun glasses. She said "They hide his pretty blue eyes.
All the best,
