    Matt: Thanks for the pictures. I enjoyed them all.

    I particularly liked the one of your wife and friend. We are going to our first Burns Night in Santa Fe this Saturday. I will show my wife that picture. While she is generally resourceful about "wardrobe issues", it will help her decide what to wear.

    Ah the Epistle To Colonel De Peyster!

    Here Burns is talking about an ideal world - O what a canty world were it,
    Would pain and care and sickness spare it;
    but the reality is somewhat different. All that roast beef and claret would not be experienced by those who could not afford it. They would not answer the "gratefu' prayer".

    Read the whole poem in context.

    A wonderful selection of images, Matt, which clearly illustrate the high level of enjoyment of those fortunate enough to be there.

    Alas, for the third successive year, I am having to miss a Burns Nicht celebration, but I have fresh haggis in the 'fridge and a malt (or three) in the cupboard so I will be having my own wee nod to The Bard on Wednesday. Imagine! A whole haggis to myself .......... Bliss!!

    Take care,
    Ham.

    So, I'm currently deployed in Qatar of all places. And wouldn't ya know it, there is an expat caledonian society here in the capital!! Unfortunately, tickets for their Burns Night have been sold out for at least the last 2 months. Hopefully I'll be able to attend a Burns Night celebration next year after I get home.

    Makes complete sense.
