Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)

Cowher, Great looks! I like the sweater and tie combo. As far as the hose with the second outfit, I'm torn. I really like the hand knit cabled hose best, but I like the dark red better with the overall outfit. Can't go wrong either way!

Cowher, all of the hose look good; each color of hose affects the viewer's perception of the kilt. For example, the dark red hose seem to emphasize the red in the kilt, while patterned hose in the last picture emphasize the greys. So, by changing your hose, and maybe a tie or shirt, you get unique looks with the same kilt.

    Cowher,

Love the Auld Scotland tartan kilt--another of those combinations of color and pattern that just scream "comfortable" to my eyes, like IOS or Maple Leaf or Dutch Friendship Tartan. It is also one like the others mentioned that makes it realy easy to wear with just about any other colors, so all the hose you show look great to me. The sweater also screams comfort to me, but then I have always been fond of wearing sweaters with just about everything, as long as the ambient temperature warrants it.

I have no problems with the flatcap (hey, I am a charter member of Zardoz's Flatcap Confederation), but just realize some "traditional" traditionalists may suggest it is incongruous with the kilt. To each his own I say, often while wearing a kilt and flatcap simultaneously myself, as evidenced by my previous posts.

    Again, well done you.

This thread has got me thinking... I have a wonderful Harris check tweed sportcoat (not a kilt jacket) which I wouldn't have thought as suitable for kiltwear, but RAF has shown how great a "Saxon" jacket can look with a kilt.

I'm not a "casual kilt" guy but I might have to give it a whirl.

Cowher: well done! I have to agree with OC Richard, the kilt/sporran/footwear combo is great! And paired with the sweater, tie, and cap, it exudes an air of sophisticated casualness (or "comfort with style") which is not easily pulled off by most. Whilst it may not be "traditional" in the Scottish manner, I think it's a great look.

In fact, if I were trying to compile a list of "new traditional" styles to emulate, yours would be one of the defining looks. I really like it!

I totally agree. Hadn't seen that tartan before, and now I'm afraid Rocky at USA Kilts may have to brace himself for yet another order from me. . .

I agree, what a superb, casual look! This would work well outdoors and at a pub, sipping a frosty pint on a cold, winter's eve.

    Well done mate,
