    Re: Traditional kilt belt adjustment

Eh, I say ditch tradition and go with this style:

Heck, how long has the "small interior buckle" style of belt been around, anyway? The above works more like a normal belt, and there's nothing to go wrong. And the buckle lies quite flat, also.

Yes, the buckle does lay darn flat, and it works on any belt. I designed the tab to work with belt, not against it.

I have made some buckles that will cross over from the kilt to jeans and slacks. Here are a couple of examples:

    Re: Traditional kilt belt adjustment

I've found its necessary to use a drop of Lock Tight (or whatever the correct name is) on the belt screws....or keep a bunch of extras on hand. They always seem to work loose eventually if they're not secured with a drop of goo.

Aye, a regular belt style can be easier to work with, and I wouldn't mind have a belt or two like that (though I still can't see myself wearing a round buckle). But I'd like to have a very thoroughly traditional belt too, which is why I asked the question. I'm thinking the traditional "inner buckle" style is pretty easy to make.

If you use Lock Tight make sure you use Blue, if you use Red you will need a torch to get them apart.

Yep. Do not do red. Red Loctite, that is. Other red is fine, especially Santa red!

I have never had a problem with Chicago screws. However, if one ever needs a thread material, it is easy to use a little dab of fingernail polish. It will hold most threads, and is easy to undo when you need to.

Not everybody can wear a round buckle.

Here is one that I made for the 'square' crowd:
