Celebrating! Distinguished Service Medal
I just received word that I will be awarded the distinguished service medal for my work as the director and training instructor for the Madison County Training Academy.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Re: Celebrating! Distinguished Service Medal
I was the Deputy Director of the school and our director resigned. Then at the next fire association meeting I was put up to be director by our Vice President. I served in the position for 2 years then we went to a board of directors and I served for another year. When I was director I changed the curriculum from the basic training courses to a full range of classes now we offer classes that even some paid services don't. I was one of the first three certified safety officers in the county, this includes the paid departments. We came back and held classes. Now there are about fifty in the county.I have been an instructor since my second year of service and still teach to this day.
Oh and all of this is volunteer. The only people who are paid are the dispatchers (full time) and the fire marshals (part time).

Good one Harold, congratulations. I know one doesn't go into volunteer work to receive accolades, but its a pleasure when one is recognised for their contributions.
