    Thank you and I have to show this to my wife, Her Grandfather was Robert Chattan and my son proudly wears his Chattan Kilt ( only kilt wearer left of that line)

    Cairngorm is a smoky quartz and was normally grey or orange/brown in colour. I dont know about its availability but I would assume its hard to come by now. However normal quartz is probably the commonest thing around in Scotland

    I actually like polished granite although its very common I think it still has great character

    I have a small selection of pins that I made. They are polished jade, some plain and some adorned. They are a nice alternative to the metal pins.

    I have seen some pretty amethyst cabochons- Thompson says amethysts are traditional. They have become less expensive and it is possible to get a big hunk, either polished or cut, for much less than you'd think.
