    Kilt Pin Location

I have never worn a pin on any of my kilts. However, I received one as a gift that I like. I know the approximation location, but how do you determine the location you place your? How far in from from the edge and up from the hem?

    Re: Kilt Pin Location

Some people say 3" in from the fringe and 3" up from the selvedge, which is more of a modern approach. I prefer 3" in, but 6-7" up, depending on the sett (I like to have the pin centered on a major stripe in the pattern).

Basically, do what you prefer. (although I'd steer clear of centering it in the middle of the apron )

A few inches in, centered on a major stripe works for me. How far up? I started low and am climbing--the more often I see it higher up, the more I like it. Put it where you like it, if you even choose to wear one.

    Re: Kilt Pin Location

Some of my kilt pins are a bit heavier than the normal type, and I have noticed that by moving them up, I don't have the pin swinging around so much. The apron stays in place because there's a weight on it, but placing the pin mid way between the knee and the hip also helps prevent snagging on ladies' ball gowns when dancing. Though I do have a couple of the typical claymore design, most of my kilt pins were not designed as such, which I find to be a bit more interesting.
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.

6" up, 2" in, regardless of the stripe

I wear pins that don't have straight lines, so it doesn't matter so much where they go.

Never really thought about it...just pinned it on, looks to be 2" in and maybe 3" up. Don't over think these things.

Check out how high Matt is wearing his pin in the picture (Post #1, Pic 1) on the the thread ...

I wore mine at about the same place tonight at the Santa Fe Burns Party. All I had to do was tap my leg to check on my pin. Once, the pin had come undone and I stuck myself! But, I didn't lose my pin.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Mine are roughly 2" in and 4" up, depending on the stripe. I just stick them in wherever I think looks good.

    Re: Kilt Pin Location

I place mine, when not in uniform, in an area that does not encourage it to catch on things and I walk or brush up against stuff. I guess that means not right where my thigh is and above the knee. Fewer tears this way.
