Hi, Deke – a quick search of the Scottish Register of Tartans produced four setts named Melrose.
The first is a district tartan, while the fourth is a corporate design for a company in Alabama.
But the second and third, which share the name Melrose (Newbigging), are family setts designed for an Australian family that traces its ancestry back to a “Mellros” who was born in Scotland and died in 1820.
The second of these is called Melrose Newbigging Grey, and it seems to be intended as a hunting tartan.
I would go for the red and green version if I had a connection to it.
Regards,
Mike
