Re: House of Edgar tweed question
Again, realizing that there's no substitute for comparing actual fabric samples, I've found a few promising tweeds that might bear further investigation:
First what I believe is a Cheviot tweed (CHE064 according to some designations) in "Green Lovat Fen":

USA Kilts

TweedTime.co.uk

Harris Tweed Shop

Heritage of Scotland
As you can see from the above, it's a bit hard to tell what the "true" color is from online swatches.
Here's another pic showing the same tweed betwixt swatches of Modern Mackenzie and Weathered Mackenzie:

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
However, since none of the above seem quite as warm or light-toned as the HoE pix posted previously, I have an inquiry in to Bookster in the UK regarding a couple of their offerings that seem intriguing:
Magee of Donegal Moss Herringbone Lambswool:

Lovat Mill Teviotex Country Herringbone Tweed:

Lovat Mill Sporting Moss Herringbone Tweed:

Lovat Mill Sporting Green Herringbone Tweed:

Which may or may not be the same as Teviotex 966 Sporting Tweed at the Tweed Shop from Highland Clans:

I also think this looks exquisite:

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
Some other options:
Estate Managers Green Shetland Tweed (from TweedTime... and also Lochcarron?):

Loden Fen (CHE084):

and again:

Any of these Geoffrey (Tailor) options:

And last but not least, 920 Medium Weight Tweed from Kinloch Anderson:

And so the hunt is on!
If anyone happens to have in vivo pictures of any of above, I'd be much obliged if they'd post here.

Yet another option (which Rocky recommends over the CHE064):
Highland Green

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
Well, the folks at Bookster are pretty awesome, too. They're very kindly mailing out a couple of tweed samples so I can actually see for myself whether they'll match the fabric of the jacket.

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
I am of the opinion that unless you can get an exact match of of the original tweed it's better to go with something darker or a completely different colour.
I have a lovely vintage lovat green kilt jacket that I often wear with either a dark green doeskin waistcoat or a claret coloured wool waistcoat.

... and that may very well be the final result; I just want to make sure I do my due diligence first.

Re: House of Edgar tweed question
The Bookster swatches arrived yesterday; another instance of a vendor willing to go well above and beyond in the customer service department!
Of the batch it looks like the best match is the Sporting Green tweed, which is a near match to the hue of the jacket fabric but a bit darker and more saturated. It might end up being "close enough" but it's not really ideal.
The Country Herringbone was also close, but more of a celery green hue -- a bit "yellower" in complexion than the jacket.
As an aside, does anyone know where to source swatches of Magee's "Celtic Tweeds"? I love the look and feel of their lambswool tweeds, but Bookster has limited colors; I'd be interested in seeing what the rest of their range is like.
