    Fighting objections from the wife

    Hello guys,

Since I've got the itch to wanting to wear a kilt, I've read about everything on the internet I could find. I've got material to make my own X-kilt, and would love to buy a more traditional one in a few months (like SWK HW).

However I can't get my wife to see it as a viable option to casual pants. I'm passing the X-kilt off (by the skin of my teeth) as part of a costume for the Ren Fest. She feels it's just weird and doesn't seem to have any kind of interest in supporting me more then a costume.

Any suggestions from you guys would be great. And if any of the ladies of some kilted men can offer some words of advice, please I'm all ears.

    -Nik

    People remarry all the time.

If that's not an option for you, I hope she REALLY likes what she sees when you kilt up in your "costume." Otherwise, I foresee many battles for you, my friend.

Lets see..."for better or worse, in sickness and in health, til death do us part."
Tell her its a sickness and she signed up for it. Seriously, just do it, she'll come around especially when she sees other women taking notice of you.

That part may be a detriment, depending on her character.

Re: Fighting objections from the wife

As the lady of a man with a kilt, I have to say, I'm not entirely sure why your wife is objecting. Frankly, I'm trying to convince my man to wear his kilts more often.

I would suggest that you ask her to just let you wear it a couple days and for her to watch the people around you. Dress it up smartly, casually, whatever way feels best. Regardless, there's nothing quite like a man in a kilt and if you're lucky (I cross my fingers for you) she'll come to realize that. Best of luck to you!

Re: Fighting objections from the wife

    Nik,

When I first started on this forum I remember seeing a thread that dealt with pretty much the same hole you're in. The best sounding advice I saw on that thread came from one of our female members, and it went something like this.

    When you wear the kilt:

    Walk just a little taller.
Walk just a little closer to your wife and hold her hand when you do.
    Laugh just a little harder.
    Smile just a little wider.
Listen to her just a little more attentively, and look her in the eyes a little longer.

In other words, just do all the stuff you probably already do, just a little better.

Do all these thing when wearing a kilt, but not so much that it's obvious. It shouldn't be hard. Kilts inspire confidence, and these are all things that confident people do. (And the ladies do love a confident man)

Then back off just a little when you're wearing pants. It shouldn't be too long before she comes around.

Leave the kilt on when its time for romance.

Let her watch you walk, with just a hint of swagger, from behind.

Hopefully she'll find the sway and swish of the pleats as appealing as I do when I get to see my guy kilted up.
