After graduating from high school I decided to stop shaving and let my hair long. That was 1989. About a year ago I decided to surprise my wife by only having a goatee. In September for about two weeks I had completely shaved off all facial hair. My upper lip and chin hadn't seen the Sun in over a decade but I looked and felt like I was missing something so I am back to the goatee.

In another radical move I had my pony tail hacked off this March for my mother's 65th birthday. It was quite a shocking event ;)

I grew the facial hair for a bit but found it to get to ichy and the women said they liked clean shaven better. Plus I was in the army when I was younger and shaving was a way of life. I think I will stay clean shaven because it just feels fresher. I am also bald, so I have the face to match the skull. I haven't bought shampoo or hair gel in many years, no money wasted there!

Blame it the evil Dr. Spock in Star
Trek. Once I saw him as a child I
knew goatee's looked cool. I grew one long
    before they became so popular.
For a long time I worked with a
company that frowned on anything other than
a mustache. Once I heard I was getting a new
boss I started growing a goatee the next day.
    I haven't looked back since.

I've had a goatee for about 10 years now. I typically let it grow to about 3-4 inches long before I cut it back short again. Once I grew it out long enough to braid. When ever I go bald, thats what I'm going to do again.

Graham, I've used that line. A friend asked why I started wearing kilts and I said "So everyone can see who really wears the pants in my house" Realistically, if the wife ain't happy, ain't nobody gonna be happy.

I just don't enjoy shaving everyday. With a beard I only have to trim it to appear presentable. I had a goatee for years, and when I met my wife, I tried the clean shaven look for about a month, incidentally she hated the clean shaven me, so the goatee came back. I grew the full beard after we had kids, as it is less time grooming, more time doing fun things with them. I also like the look and feel of having facial hair. I always saw it as a right of passage into manhood. My father always had facial hair too, that may have some thing to do with it.

I ususally have some form of facial hair. I usually have a beard in the fall/winter, and then go to a goatee or the "Quigly Down Under" look in the summer.

I shaved completely last summer when I was pursuing a girl that didn't like facial hair - I decided that no girl was worth all the extra "manscaping" or letting my ugly chin see the light of day.
