Nope, same ship, same place. The Spruce Goose was next door for a while, under a dome. That would have been, oh, late 70s, at least that's when I went to see the Goose.
The QM has been "docked" in the same spot since she came in from her final voyage. I grew up in Sunset Beach, just south of LB, went out to the beach to watch her come in. My mother (an RN) helped set up the public first aid system for the first company that operated the QM as a tourist attraction, and worked on board for several years.
One story from that era was the woman who paid her admission, then asked when the cruise began! But that probably still happens. . . Bob and I went to Catalina Island last year or so, overhead a woman who was disappointed that there was no gambling at the Casino! There's no fixing stupid.

The Hughes "Spruce Goose" was moved to the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon (south of Portland.) If you are in the area, the museum is definitely worth a visit.

I, too, found the numbe 6 photo to be interesting. I like the colors in that tartan. I am betting that most of those guys are wearing a Sportkilt or similar so that they don't get destroyed by the activities. Great photos. I like all the first action shots. Well done.
I think I'll go work out now. I am behind I see.

Re: Queen Mary scottish fest day 1
thanks everyone. I had a great time at a great festival. Weather was wonderful. Loved the music, reenactors, men of worth the people and the games. I had to use telephoto on a lot of the shots. which gave me the only frustrating thing I experienced at the festival. I'd line up a shot I liked but one of the other athletes would step in between me and my shot. Still I got a lot I liked.

Great shots of the Mens A class throwing the 56 pound weight for distance.
Ed Green, Jon O'Neil, Adam Brezina, John Davis (with the blue socks that everybody loves). The 'above" shots from the stands are *great*! I'm going to point the athletes to these photos, if you don't mind.
Yes, the guys are wearing Sportkilts.
There is a square of grass alongside the ship, now. It's about 100 x 100, enough room for some of the events but not enough room for all the athletes at once, and definitely not enough room for hammer. So some of the athletes were down at the park, where they've been in past years, and all the hammer throwing was down there as well.

I am glad you liked them and hope the athletes do. I mentioned it in the day 2 set but if any body I shot wants any I will email them free.

Re: Queen Mary scottish fest day 1
BTW...only on X Marks the Scot would there be positive comments about one of the athletes matching his socks to a predominant color in his tartan, or comments about the relative lack of crisp pleats in the athletes kilts. Hey, if that's what you appreciate, then that's great. Personally, I'm a lot more interested in the fact that the guy is blistering strong and an incredible athlete, and he's about to hurl a 56 pound ball of iron father than a lot of people can *carry* it.
Different strokes and all that...
...........There's a reason there aren't more athletes on X Marks.
