The picture is not of my Granny's rugs; it's just one I found online to show folks what a hooked rug is.
I've never played cribbage, but I have raised cabbage.

Re: Tyger's New Ryan Ross Bonnet
My grandmother made all of her own clothes (and her mother and aunt's) for a period of ten years or so. That always impressed me, as I'm terrible with a sewing machine.
...and I heard that she cut herself in the kitchen, the other day; not a common occurance. I haven't had a look at it yet, but I hear it's not infected, which is good.

Re: Tyger's New Ryan Ross Bonnet
One Granny named Charlotte. The other named Velnia. Charlotte was raised on a dairy farm. Velnia on a cotton patch.
I just simply do hate how selfish and greedy, stupid, ignorant, and lazy so many people are today. It is outrageous, it is offensive, and it must end.
Our Grannies were bright, intelligent, hard-working, and generous.
Yeah, morph to granny topic. Why not?
My Grannies wore bonnets.
I need to either borrow or buy a camera if I am going to get more bonnet pics.

Re: Tyger's New Ryan Ross Bonnet
Ada Grace and Louvenia, maternal and paternal respectively. Both firebrands in their own ways. Ada went to secretarial school in Los Angeles and had the most beautiful handwriting all her days. She could bake anything that needed baking, and I wish I knew how to crimp a pie crust like she did. She was supposed to rest every afternoon, but her idea of resting was to sit up in bed and darn socks, or play cribbage with her granddaughters, or read aloud to me until I was old enough (4 or so) to handle it myself. She would also study her Spanish vocabulary, so she could talk to her lady friends down in Topolobampo, where she and Grampy hauled their trailer every winter.
Louvenia wanted to be a teacher, but her father wouldn't pay to school a girl and instead married her off to my grandfather Ardleigh, who brought the die-young-from-heart-disease gene into our pool. He was not a nice man, from what I hear tell, and Louvenia carried some of that bitterness into her old age. But she was a seamstress, and I remember taking her fabric shopping in Long Beach when I was in high school (great excuse to drive her car, a '67 Mustang, 287 V8 and baby-blue interior. . .).
Grannies/Grammies don't seem to be what they used to, do they?
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].

Re: Tyger's New Ryan Ross Bonnet
They sure don't. Mine is awesome... always has been.
She's turning 90 in a few months, and still lives alone; we lost my grandpa almost three years ago. DeDe (I call my grandma DeDe...always have...no one knows why) still hasn't lost her touch in the kitchen, either; my mom's really, really excelent in the kitchen, works magic, but my DeDe will always be better, it seems.
But all that said, it's off to my friend Crazy George's house tonight, and not grandma's. George makes a mean Peking duck, or so I hear, and that's what's on, in a couple hours.
