			Ladies' Sashes

Several recent threads about ladies' shawls and sashes have sent me into my wife's chest of drawers to retrieve her sash. It really is lovely! It has belonged to several generations of MacLean ladies. My mother gave it to Sara several years ago, saying that while her days of ball-going are over, Sara has quite a few years left to enjoy the sash! It is about 8 feet long, not including the tassels ( which are about 8 inches long ), and about a foot wide. It's very silky and soft, and doesn't get worn enough!

Wow Sandy, that is very beautiful sash! My wife, Stephanie (whom you've met) has a similar sash made of silk in the Macpherson dress tartan. I love the detail of the tassels and the overall length of the material.
 Thanks for sharing!

What is unusual is that the tassels are not fringed from the actual weave of the sash. Rather, the end of the sash is finished, and the tassel threads tied on. I don't know that I've ever seen another sash like this. Typically the cloth of the sash itself is fringed.
