    Kiltmart.com

I've read some pretty bad reviews about this company, so I thought I would give you my impressions. First a little background. I attended Hoggstowne Midevial Faire a couple of week ago and was hooked. I loved the atmosphere, the people and the costumes. This is something I wanted to be part of. After some thought (and my Irish roots back to North Ireland), I decided a kilt would be the way to go and would be appropriate for all functions.

Being frugal (I may have some Scot in me), I narrowed down between Stillwater and Kiltmart. Being that I need the whole shebang before Feb 25th...I went with Kiltmart.

Here is what I ordered: Black Ghillie Shirt, Black Kilt Hose, Embossed Leather Sporran with Tassels, Sporran Hangers, Square Celtic Belt Buckle, Black Smooth Leather Belt, Irish Heritage Tartan Flashes and Irish Heritage Kilt.

The kilt was listed as "Our Best" at a price of $69.00 (almost 30.00 less than Stillwaters Standard). Now the Kilt. I was very surprised at the weight and feel of the acrylic material. It listed as 2.5 pounds but it feels much heavier. The pleats are sewn down 8 inches from the waist and seem to be very sharp. The pleats are 3.5 inches with an overlap of 2.5 inches. The belt loops pattern matches with the pattern of the kilt. There is a double row of fringe on the apron and has the three leather straps. It fits well and and hangs great! The lining is appx 8 inches wide. The whole ensemble cost $210.00 with shipping.

The quality of the accessories are a little better than I expected for the price, and I plan on replacing them as I find the right pieces and money!! I have not found the right caubeen and will have to be contented with my grey, linen newsboy hat for the time.

BTW, Kiltmart's service was great. Everything came, well packed, in one box. Everything I ordered was there and all the sizes were correct. I placed my order on Sunday night, and received it on Wednesday. I will be sporting my stuff at the N. E. Florida Highland Games on Saturday!!

I will post some pix once my 15 year old grandson shows me how!!!

    Re: Kiltmart.com

My kilt came from kiltmart.com as well but is their "heavy weight" kilt and the quality, feel, and fit are great as was their service when i ordered it. Everyone that has seen it has been impressed as well.

I've been considering ordering another but this time going with their "Our Best", as you ordered only in a different tartan. after reading your post i'm sold - Come on tax return, lol. I havent ordered anything other than my kilt from them so I cant speak as to the quality of their other items.

    Re: Kiltmart.com

I have purchased items from Kiltmart via the web, but only accessories. I received good service, quality, and prices. I have not bought one of their kilts, because they are acrylic and I prefer wool or PV.

On a trip to Florida I "found" (it takes a little searching) their bricks-and-mortar store on the east side of North Monroe St. in Tallahassee. It's a store within a another store, the "outer" one being a 2nd-hand woman's shop. At the time there were no visible signs that Kiltmart was within. It occupies about 2 rows of the merchandise and comprised mostly of kilts on racks. You good 'ol boys in FL could drop by sometime and visit them if you had a hankerin' to do so.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I will look for you. I'll have a gray newsboy hat and carrying a blackthorn walking cane. I can hardly wait!

I'm happy with my kilt from them. Service, quality and price were pretty good for an off the rack kilt.
