    Puttin' On The Ritz

    Gentlefolk,

Check out the new sporran and kilt belt that Artificer made for me. The leather is incredibly soft and supple. The kilt belt is so pliable that it goes on/off more easily than any of my other belts. I can hardly tell it's there when I wear it.

The sporran is very elegant in its simplicity. It has plenty of room for all my “stuff” and the clasp is just how I like it – simple, secure, and attractive. The craftsmanship is impeccable.

The braided tassels keep me company as I march along, tapping out a rhythm like that in “Sirens of Titan” by Kurt Vonnegut ...

    “rented a tent, rented a tent, rented a rented a rented a tent, ...”

My wife told me I was messing up the picture, so she put my kilt on a seamstress dummy for the next shot ...

The retainer system on the sporran belt not only holds down the tail of the belt, but confines the retainer, so it doesn't slide off the end of the tail ... very functional.

And now for a shot "in vivo". Unfortunately, because it was cold, the kilt belt is obscured by my sweater. The kilt not being around my ankles, however, attests to its presence and positive function.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I knew there was a reason I like you other than the fact that every time I see you, I think George Carlin has been resurrected--only this time, he's brave enough to wear something other than a black turtleneck.

Those do look great. Got to love well-made simplicity...not too showy, but impressive to anyone who knows what they're looking at. Enjoy your new gear!

    Congratulations, sounds very nice.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Eh... I preferred Fred Astaire's earlier stuff. But a top hat, white tie, and tails wouldn't go too well with the kilt now, would they?

Love the sporran - looks very comfy and roomy.

The entire ensemble looks great! But, have you considered wearing a color other than the ubiquitous white for your hose?

Now that you mention it, he is a dead ringer for George!

And the belt and sporran are spot on. Nice work Artifcer!

Looking sharp as always, my friend, and that sporran and belt are to die for! Scott's standard, impecable craftsmanship, combined with a classic design and awesome choice of materials.

Is the belt bridle leather, by any chance?

Love the belt! It looks very thick and heavy. I wonder what kind and weight of leather it is. Scott?

Looking great, Mookien! I'm glad we nailed it. I loved your description of the tassels beating on the sporran's front panel.

It's a 10-11oz Veg Tan that is ridiculously supple. It's as soft as bridle leather without being dyed and re-oiled. It's nice because I can dye to match the chrome tan I'm using (using oil dyes, not spirit dyes - they dry and stiffen the leather too much).

I bought a gigantic hide of it a while back to use exclusively for belts and straps. It's expensive stuff, but well worth it.

Don't listen to her, the only thing messing up the photos is the trash can in the background. It's the fault of the photographer to not realizing it:

In combination with the white sweater this looks perfect, IMHO.
