Before I pull the trigger some advice is needed

So I'be decided on a kilt maker and I've decided on the weight, ounces and style. However I haven't decided on sett or stripe. Davidson of Tulloch. I need a photo or photo representationon the pleating of both Ancient & Modern. Both pleated to the Sett or Stripe.
    Thanks in advance!

I like a nice short parade that ends at a bar.

Sett. I always go with the sett. You know what it is going to look like - no surprises or disappointments. No regrets and no "if onlys".

    Regards

Your kilt maker should be able to pin up a few examples of different pleating to photograph for you.

Some setts are really quite striking when pleated to the stripe or to the block.

Here's my Holyrood that our xman pleated to the white stripe.

There are many other examples here on X-Marks if you search around.

Agree with Artificer that most any kilt maker would be willing to pin up some pleating examples for you.

I could se pleating to the red stripe if you like it. Persoanlly I probably wouldn't pleat it to the white or black, but I am a known moron.

I was going to suggest asking his kiltmaker, but note that he hasn't settled on a specific tartan yet (lists two choices) so the material is not likely to be on hand.

Others have used the digital tartan image and Photoshop-type software to approximate the options but there is really nothing like seeing the actual fabric. Once OP makes up his mind on fabric, then get the maker to pin up options and make final pleating decision.

There is a review of My Johnstone 13oz pleated to Gold Stripe - Here...

It's not Davidson of Tulloch but it is predominantly green. Might give you an idea while you wait for better pictures of your ancient / modern option.

John from Keltoi sent piccys of my weathered hunting Mackintosh three different ways before I picked it pleated to a yellow stripe.
The sett( inthis tartan) anyway was not attractive at all.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to respond to your PM. My Davidson of Tulloch kilt is modern colors and pleated to the white stripe. I'm happy to send/post photos. I'll post size info today when I get home to see if it might fit. FWIW, it's a steal at $250...

    Cordially,

    David

The kilt I have for sale is a 5yd knife-pleat kilt hand-made by Matt Newsome of Locharron 16 oz. strome in modern Davidson of Tulloch tartan. It is pleated to the white stripe.

The waist adjusts from 35" to 38" and the length is 24". It's lined in raw silk and has two straps/buckles: one on the outside right and Matt's special "inside left" buckle arrangement. In like-new condition and comes with it's own Stillwater kilt hanger.

    Here are some photos:

    Stripe all the way.
Dependin how you get the pleatin done, it completely changes the look. It shows off the "swish" better too.
    Good luck.
