Retrofitting a Sporran with an Organizer?
I am wondering if anyone has made (DIY style) an organizer, to insert into their sporran, with dividers and card holders and such.
I'm thinking about making something simple, to go into any of my sporrans, that would have a few little pockets, a D-ring for keys, and maybe a pouch for loose stuff. It would not take up the whole sporran, and could be removed like a walllet. I'm also thinking it might be made with a stiff backing so it doesn't get folded up.
I have something kind of like this for a backpack that didn't have enough pockets and dividers inside.
Any DIY ideas?
Thanks.

It wouldn't be hard to do.
Simply attach your pocket configuration (made of soft kidskin, elk, or thin cowhide) to a stiff piece of veg-tan instead of sewing it into the body of the sporran.
If the leather you select is thin enough you could sew the pocket section with a home machine. You would have to sew it to the veg-tan by hand.
Here is the interior of Mael Coluim's day sporran that I made.

Depending on the type/types of sporran you plan on using your stowage piece in, you might consider shaping the bottom of your stiff panel to more securely rest (and stay) where you place it.

Tons of them exist for women's purses, but mostly too big for sporran use. Here is a link to DIY idea for a large version, maybe you can scale it down? And another linked here.
Bob bought a small, slim card case that holds his cash and cards. But no provision for keys or other items, which is why I built pockets into the sporran I just made for him ((here).

Re: Retrofitting a Sporran with an Organizer?
Thanks, all.
I am thinking it could be about as wide as the opening on my sporrans, and about as tall as the sporran to the opening. It would, as you say, artificer, have a curved bottom to hug the bottom of the sporran. It would also be best to sit flush against the front or back panel of the sporran and give room for my hand and other stuff in there; I already have one of the curved wallets that fit a front pocket or the side of a sporran.
I'm thinking a change-pouch could go at the bottom, curved part to fill out a little space and make things a little more snug, artificer.
Might not be able to do this with leather, but that would be nice.

Re: Retrofitting a Sporran with an Organizer?
I'm still looking over sydnie7's information. What I'm thinking of would only have pockets on one side and the other side would sit flat against the back or front of the sporran. Kind of like a pegboard on the back of a tool bench.
I think what has put this in my mind is the inside of my laptop backpack that has a division with some mesh pockets, pin-holder pockets, USB-holder pockets, and a D-ring on a strap-loop. It's a front part that zips open, and the whole pack is made of nylon fabric of some sort. If you put a few of those pockets and things on fabric of some sort (perhaps nylon like the pack), then sewed it all up with stiff backing inside (I might have to use very thick plastic), I think it might work. The idea is to be able to just put that in which ever sporran or backpack I am lugging around, and that's kind of what the purse links sydnie7 posted are talking about.
I only know how to hand sew stuff...

Also want to put a holder for my pocket watch.
I've been looking through my collection of junk for a stiff piece of plastic as a backing inside the fabric; haven't found anything yet, so I might have to use several layers of something.

Hey Bugbear, do you have one of those corplast campaign signs floating around the neighborhood? A piece of that may work for your stiffener.

No... I don't think there would be anything like that out here, at least not very long...
I could probably use a piece of two ply plywood with holes drilled for stitches here and there.
For some reason, I've been having trouble hand sewing things, though; takes too much concentration I guess. Kind of frustrating.
