    Re: Computer network names

Given my location in the world, I name my networked machines after Japanese movie monsters. Godzilla, King Kong, Mothra, Megalon, etc...

    Re: Computer network names

I name my network connection using a term that looks like a virus name, to discourage piggybackers.

    Re: Computer network names

My computers are all named for tolkien characters. Servers are wizards (Sauruman, Gandalf, Sauron), workstations are hobbits (Frodo, Bilbo, Samwise), and named appliances (NAS, media center, playstation) are named for other characters (Bombadil, Treebeard).

    My network is named Middle.Earth

My wireless network is locked down and monitored, so I don't really have to worry. If an unfamiliar mac address connects, it will only have web access until I approve it, and I get an email telling me a new device connected. I know from my own experiences it takes a fairly modern computer, running at 100% CPU for about 16 hours or more, to crack a good WPA2 passcode.

    Re: Computer network names

I've gone with a naming scheme of fictional computers. Mine's HAL. Wife's is Mycroft (from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by R Heinlien...of course, in turn named after Holmes' brother.), server The Gibson. The PS3 is WOPR, Wii Project 2501, the router itself is Andromeda Ascendant, but that's not internal. The external HDs are KITT and KARR.

Not going to give the SSIDs of the two networks running, but I can say they are on the same scheme.
