Here in the United Kingdom, these hangers are available with wooden bars of different lengths, so there is no problem with 'kilt droop'!

I always get mine from John Lewis. In fact, last Saturday, whilst I was in London, I made a point of picking up four more from the Oxford Street store in readiness for the arrival of new kilts currently on order!

They might well be available from other department stores, but John Lewis always has them.

I was also afraid the wooden hangers where a bit too rough for the material.and for heavey kils, like my leather R kilt, I use 2 jangers one on either side of the kilt IE one on the front one on the back.

The wooden bars usually have strips of felt on the inside edges, to protect the kilt fabric and to give a better grip.

I must have the cheap ones then, never seen the ones you talk about, the ones I have pull on the kilts a bit.

The traditional women's skirt-hangers (with the clips) work well (actually, they used to be called kilt-hangers in John Lewis's), but I have always used them in conjunction with the clips Bear uses, which I call "bulldog-clips" available from any good stationery store.

P.S. Even those of us with skinny waists (mine is 28") can suffer from "kilt-drop" on certain hangers, hence the bull-dog clips.

Here's another source I found for a Skirt Clamp Cedar 13-1/2" (they just don't know any better yet about it really being a kilt hanger):

It doesn't have felt on it, but shouldn't be too hard to add if you wanted it. It seems to have plenty of holding power for my poly / viscose kilt. Haven't tried it on my 22 oz. military model.

Container Store has stores locally in North Texas, and they handle quality stuff.
