Not saying it won't be extremely packed due to the other things, but the London Olympics are in 2012, not 2014.

Ahhhh, but the Commonwealth Games are in Glasgow in 2014. That's likely what Rathdown was thinking of.

I'd love to go but it sounds like it really IS going to be a zoo that summer.

Re: £3m Budget for 2014 Homecoming
Perhaps offtopic, but how are these dates chosen?
I can understand 2014 (1314 and all that) but why 2009?
How long has this "Homecoming" thing been going on?
BTW my home state of West Virginia has been doing "Homecomings" too, an effort to get ex-pat West Virginians to visit and hopefully spend some money.

I live in easy driving distance of London, but here in Norfolk, we see this very much as a LONDON event.

Re: £3m Budget for 2014 Homecoming
Thanks for the information Alex, very interesting indeed. My lovely wife and I shall definitely be in Scotland in 2014 for the celebrations and festivities! Perhaps this would be an opportune time for many XMarker's to be together in one place - what fun that would be!
Cheers,

Re: £3m Budget for 2014 Homecoming
From the The Gathering 2014 Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/thegathering2014
Just announced:
"The Plans for Clans 2014, an international gathering of the clans (11 – 13 July 2014) are taking shape, to include a Clans Village, a cavalcade procession between the Village and Stirling Castle, and entertainment on the spectacular Castle Esplanade. There would also be a programme of musical and other cultural events in venues across the city. Clans 2014 will run alongside the Sekonda Stirling Highland Games. There will be a link-up with the Bannockburn Battlefield site to give visitors another opportunity to commemorate the special 700th anniversary."

Re: The Gathering 2014
Since we have two discussions going on in this thread; the first information on the upcoming 2014 Gathering., and the second, a discussion about the financial loss of the 2009 Gathering and what can be done not to repeat the situation for the 2014 Gathering. Let’s separate the threads:
The Gathering 2014 – Upcoming Event News
The Gathering 2014 – Not repeating the financial failure of the 2009
