Now I'm curious as to the other side of the trade - was it the Star of India?
That may be the most beautiful knife I've ever seen.

The Star of India is one of the world's largest sapphires, there is one bigger, I think. I assume you were not wanting to know about the local Curry house?

Oooops, having found my glasses, I think that I misread the question. Sorry!

Have you seen some of Drac's other work - it's ALL that gorgeous!

    MINE

And a few more from the past few years-

I'd be hard pressed to carry ANYTHING but a Drac-made sgian. And they're as functional as they are beautiful- taking and keeping a nice edge.

There was another I wanted to spotlight from a few years back, but Drac's photo service must have changed and the link is broken

Yeah, if you don't own one of Jim's sgians, you almost certainly should; that's pretty much my thought on the matter.

This one is related to Scott's:

    Thanks guys for the complements.

I try to do my best when working on blades and am glad the owners enjoy them.

For trade I got one of X's kilts -

    It was a wonderful trade.

    I've got one, too!

The knife is not really blurry. It's the photographer.
The sheath is malachite, which Jim says was difficult to work with. The blade is Damascus in a sort of random-swirl pattern. It's a thing of beauty, as you can see.
    Here's a little closer shot:

Jim's name stamp is on the back of the blade. He said when he struck it it bounced, causing a double image. He gave me the option of replacing it with a whole new blade that would be single-struck, but I asked him to give me the "imperfect" one. (I prefer things that are slightly not-exactly-as-expected. It enhances the handmade appeal.)
Jim's a sweetheart to work with. I highly recommend his work and his patience with slow barter-partners.

I believe that is Bob's pictured a ways up, with the brown wood. It is kauri wood from New Zealand, some 50,000 years old and a beautiful piece of work that Bob is proud to carry. It also has the wooden sheath.
