Why are Atherton pipes soooo expensive $3000(£2600) for imitation or art ivory! am i missing something, There are several Glen/Lawries in ivory for less than that around at the moment, Craftsmanship I understand but?

It has all to do with the best materials and the highest regard for craftsmanship and a commitment to quality.

I've seen a lot of atrocious bagpipes coming from companies that are "name-brand" and supposed to be reputable.

The level of quality is worth the money.

I understand where you're coming about price...they were expensive for me, but I felt it was worth it.

I would like a nice classic pipe too someday but sadly even those you have to be cautious with especially considering many are bought sight-unseen.

    hey all
i play Mccallum ab4's with celtic engraving and the mopani mounts. ross synthetic bag and crozier carbon fiber drone reeds. have the standard mccallum poly chanter.
my second set are 1950's j&r glen's. they have the same bag and reed set up.
hve a set of gibson firesides in cocobolo with the stainless ferrels. they are super fun to play and dont blow every one out of the room. ive got the bflat and a440 chanters! its nice to play with other instruments once in a while.
there is no such thing as bad weather..only inadequite clothing!
