    Altering P/V?

    Hello,
I did a search and looked thru all the archives on here but still can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Wondering if anyone on here can help.

Has anyone tried to put a lining and stabilizer on a P/V kilt? And if so, how hard and is it worth it?

I only ask because a few weeks ago I ordered an 8yd p/v. While jonesing for this new kilt, I got to thinking. There's going to be an awful lot of material gathered in the back where normally a traditionally made kilt will have the pleats cut out and lined.

The kilt will arrive within a month so I have yet to see how its made, how much material will be bunched up, etc.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

    Eric

I haven't tried to put one in, but the 8 yrd PV kilt I bought from Skyehighland Outfitters came lined just like a wool kilt.

And as you can see, does not have a bulky rear which, I assume, indicates that the pleats were in fact cut out.

However, I can't speak to whether or not it has any kind of stabalizer in it as I have not bothered to take it apart to check.

But if you bought it from them, I can tell you this one is a very nice PV kilt.

    Hope that helps some.

Don't know about retrofitting, but I did make a PV ( provincial tartan material from Fannies fabrics) double-box pleat, and put in stabilizer and hair canvas:

    - pleats seem to swing& 'hang' well, but not having one of wool, I can't honestly compare any possible differences. This was an experiment, to see how to make a double box pleat, so I made it as "traditional", in construction, as possible.
    Hope this helps.

You ought to contact the supplier of your kilt and request information on the construction of your kilt. They should be able to tell you how the kilt you ordered will be constructed, or at least, I hope that is the case. Once you know that you can either relax or plan your next move.

    Hi Eric,

You didn't tell us with whom you placed your order, but from my experience the larger kiltmakers make all their kilts the same way. That is to say that it will have a lining and the pleats will be cut away. The only difference will be the material.

I have two Geoffrey (Tailor) PV kilts made that way as my woollen ones.

    Regards

    Chas
