    Early bluebonnet photos from Texas

This past weekend, I gave my four-year-old the choice of attending the St. Patrick's Day parade in Houston (followed by an afternoon at Discovery Green), or of heading to Washington County (where I grew up) to look for bluebonnets and visit with friends. She opted for the bluebonnets.

It's early yet, but we were able to find some nice patches here and there. They should be in fool bloom in the next week or two, and it looks as if it's going to be a good year (as opposed to last year during the drought...).

Awww, beautiful photos! I haven't seen any yet, so I'll have to keep an eye out.

Great pictures Shawn. We've seen a few bluebonnets around Waco, but that area around Hempstead always has fields full of them.

I always love seeing pics of your daughter, Shaun!

I've been seeing bluebonnets down south (between San Antonio and Corpus Christi) for a couple of weeks now, but nothing up here in the Hill Country yet. They say the last week of March or first week of April will be the time they bloom. Maybe we'll have some for you when you come up here next weekend!

    Lupinus texensis

    jhockin:

Yes, Texas bluebonnets are indeed a variety of lupine, but they're a bit different from those in BC. (We saw some there on our honeymoon many years ago and said "Wow, those look kind of like giant bluebonnets!").

    Thumbs up

great photos! saw 'bonnets out in force on my way to and from Sherwood Sunday, Although I think there were more along Hwy 36 than the popular Wasington county spots, with lots of folks getting photos.
